Waltz

Waltz is one of the world's most loved and well-known ballroom dances. This dance is elegant and poised. It's the only form of dance in 3/4 time, so if you don't know how to Waltz when the music begins, you'll have to sit that one out. When watching dancers dance the Waltz, they look as though they're gliding across the floor effortlessly. It inspires feelings of love, elegance, and grace. It's a true classic.

Tango

Tango is one of the most fascinating of all dances. Its sharp staccato movements have brought many audiences to their feet. Tango has many different styles: American, Argentine, French, Gaucho, and International. The Americanized version is a combination of the best parts of each. Danced to Strict Tempo music, the Tango incorporates sharp, catlike steps with passion and intensity. This dance is dramatic and sensual. No matter which style you dance, the Tango is likely to raise your temperature a few degrees!

Foxtrot

If the names Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire come to mind when you hear the word Foxtrot, then you're in the right frame of mind. This elegant and smooth dance progresses around the dance floor counterclockwise. Ladies are dressed to nines wearing their flowing ball gowns while the gentlemen are dressed in their tux and tails. The American Style Foxtrot can take on many forms as it progresses through the bronze, silver, and gold levels. Just starting out, you'll learn some basic simple movements made up of walking steps and chasses. This is the ideal dance for social dancing. Dressed up, it's your Foxtrot. Dressed down, it can be your fancy slow dance. At any level, Foxtrot can be fun and easy to learn. Many fall in love with Foxtrot, because of the classy music. So whether you're dancing to Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, let the Foxtrot sweep you off your feet.

Ballroom

Quickstep

The dance of Quickstep emerged in England in the 1920s and grew out of the Foxtrot craze. This high energy, quick paced, and lively dance incorporates steps from the Charleston, Peabody, and the Foxtrot. The Quickstep is full of syncopated steps and will intoxicate you with its joyful rhythms and pulsating speed. This dance will have you on your feet in no time.

Viennese Waltz

The Viennese Waltz is the oldest of all the dances still danced today, and has its origin in 17th Century Germany. This dance is similar to the regular Waltz in the fact that it is also written in 3/4 timing. Viennese Waltz was the first dance to ever hold their partner in the "closed position." The dancers continuously turn left and right while traveling counterclockwise around the floor following each other. The fast tempo and close embrace of the Viennese Waltz will make you feel like royalty.

Pre-Silver

At DanceCenter, we set our standard very high for this class, and we want to be sure that the class can move at a rapid pace. This is not a form of professional qualification, but a way for a dancer to mark his or her progress in the art of ballroom dance. If you're interested in being in the Pre-Silver Class, but are not yet at the level to pass the test, you may schedule additional private lessons to prepare. Additional lessons may also be shared with other students (if you choose to share) and you may work together as a team to prepare for the pre-test with your instructor. This is a great way to accomplish your goals and can also help the additional lessons to be more affordable. This class will focus on the six major dances: Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot.
